Should you exfoliate lips?

Should you exfoliate lips?

When you think of exfoliating, what part of your body do you think of? Probably your legs, arms or face, right? What if we told you it's just as important to exfoliate your lips?

It's true! Exfoliating your lips has many benefits. It is one of the most effective methods of healing dry, cracked skin and creates a beautiful, smooth surface for you to apply the perfect layer of lipstick.

While it is undoubtedly a great idea to exfoliate your lips, there is a right and a wrong way to exfoliate your lips.

How to Exfoliate Your Lips?

First, let's talk about how NOT to exfoliate your lips. We do not recommend using anything hard such as a toothbrush. You can trap dead skin cells and cause minor abrasions on your lips. This can be quite painful and take a few days to heal.

Instead, scrub your lips the right way – with a delicious lip scrub.

  1. Make sure your lips are clean and dry. Make sure you don't have any lip gloss, lipstick, or chapstick on your lips. Use a soft, wet washcloth and makeup remover to clean your lips. Then pat them dry with a soft, dry washcloth.
  2. Exfoliate with a lip scrub. Use an exfoliator specially formulated to exfoliate the lips, such as the Bubi Bubi Bubble Lip Scrub. You want to use such a lip scrub because it contains moisturizing creams and special ingredients to remove dead skin cells.
  3. You should always moisturize after exfoliating! We recommend using our Everyday Vegan Lip Balm after exfoliating your lips. It is formulated with natural oils, butters and botanicals to leave your skin soft, supple and protected from the elements.

How often should you exfoliate your lips?

There is no single answer to the question, “how often should you exfoliate your lips?” because the answer depends on a few different factors.

For example, if you live somewhere with freezing temperatures and windy weather, you probably notice that your lips are chapped more often. If so, we recommend exfoliating your lips once a week, or whenever you think it's necessary.

If you live in a more humid climate with moderate temperatures, you may not need to exfoliate as often. We recommend paying close attention to the look and feel of your lips and exfoliating accordingly.
